Safety, inclusion, and belonging are essential for all students to thrive.
As a candidate for Oakwood School Board, I am committed to supporting policies that equip educators and school district staff with the essential tools to create a safe environment for all learners to thrive.
What is a safe environment? For me, it’s both physical and emotional.
For physical safety – feeling a sense of safety is critical to supporting academic growth. First and foremost, we must ensure the physical safety of our students and staff by following the appropriate protocols for school buildings and maintaining awareness of how to keep improving these practices. It’s important to stay vigilant and continually exploring best practices that support physical safety and security. I’m encouraged to see some of the new procedures being implemented at our schools this year!
For emotional safety – we can foster an environment of belonging and inclusion. By promoting a genuine sense of belonging and inclusion, Oakwood students can feel safe to be fully present and show up as who they are, regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, primary language, age, socioeconomic status, religion, family structure, sexual orientation, gender identity, differing ability, learning style, and other lived experiences and identities that make our students unique.
All of our paths are unique. Each student is unique. Each of our children are unique.
