Oakwood has a legacy of excellence, and I am eager to maintain this legacy through the core pillars of my campaign: Opportunity, Community, and Inclusivity. In this post, let’s unpack what I mean by Opportunity.
Opportunity is a critical component of a quality public school education. As a parent and former educator, my family and I chose Oakwood for the advanced opportunities the schools provide to students.
In conversation with students, families, and community members, I am continually encouraged by the positive aspects of our schools and the wide range of opportunities available to our children. With that in mind, there is room for improvement (as with any organization, team, or workplace) – the same is true for Oakwood as a school district.
I share your priorities of ensuring a high-quality education that effectively prepares students for a diverse and globalized workforce. Whether our students graduate from Oakwood or are here for only a few years, our schools have the opportunity to equip students during their time in the district with the appropriate skillset, tools, awareness, education, resources, and preparedness for the next step of their journey.
This preparation includes access to opportunities and unique pathways that align with students’ interests, goals, and future aspirations. Oakwood boasts robust opportunities in academics, fine arts, sports, and other extracurricular activities that enhance the experience of education for all learners.
How can we make these opportunities even stronger and more valuable?
Whether addressing transportation challenges for sporting events or providing robust AP courses for students, there is opportunity for improvement. We can enhance our communication with parents regarding programming and support opportunities available to students. We can continue investing in our educators and leadership across the district through meaningful professional development, continuing education opportunities, and learning cohorts to support student success.
We must ensure unique pathways are available for students to choose in alignment with their goals and interests. Providing a range of opportunities allows students to confidently and successfully pursue higher education, skilled-trades, volunteer commitments, military service, and other post-secondary options.
Oakwood continues to rank in the top 1% across the state for school performance. The district is incredibly frugal when it comes to managing tax-payer dollars, supporting high-quality instruction, and fostering academic excellence. I support the levy to ensure our educators and school district staff have the resources needed to provide top-notch instruction to students.
The excellent schools are why many of us chose to make Oakwood our home; it’s also why many of us choose to stay and flourish. I’m all in for all students because I committed to leveraging Opportunity to promote the quality and experience of education for Oakwood students.
